Question
Question^
We have a phosphoresent tube with a potential difference between the two ends. It has allowed the gas inside to ionize. There are He+2 and He+1 ions present as well as electrons. Imagine that the ions are moving to the left at the same time that some electrons are moving to the right past the same location. Now assume the He+2 ions move to the right at a rate of 1.35 times 1018He+2/s, and the electrons move to the right at a rate of 2.84 times 1018 e-/s . What would be the net current caused by just these two types of charges? Assume to the right is positive current.
Explanation / Answer
net current=chjarge/time
=(1.35*10^18*1.6*10^-19*2-2.84*10^18*1.6*10^-19)
=-0.0224 A
so current in the left direction with magnitude 0.0224 A
