Question

Could someone help me?? It's my second time to ask the same question...

Four points W, X, Y, and Z are near a different charged system. The student observes that Delta VW Y= 0, Delta VW Z = -V0, and Delta VW X =-2V0. Indicate on the diagram the position of the charge(s) that would give these readings, and state whether each charge is positive or negative. Explain. A small negative test charge is placed at point W. On the diagram, draw an arrow showing which direction the test charge would move. Explain.

Explanation / Answer

the electric potential is directly propotional to the charge and indirectly proportional to the distance from it. the potential difference between w and y if zero which implies that both the charges are of same magnitude and charge, let it be -Q.

Then Qz-Qw proportional to -Vo => Qz = Q/2 and Qx-Qw proportional to -2Vo => Qx = -Q.
