Question

In the session long projects for this class, you will be asked to conduct experiments in a "virtual" laboratory. For Module 1 you will run a simulation that allows you to investigate current and voltages across resistors in a purely resistive circuit.

Click on the following link to access the simulation .

Fendt, W. (2002). Combinations of resistors (Java simulation). Retrieved on 13 Nov 07 from http://www.walter-fendt.de/ph14e/combres.htm

Run the simulation and do the following things:

1.Find the voltages (V1 and V2) and current (A) across the following sets of series circuits (see figure above) where the voltage source is 12 VDC.

a. R1=50?, R2=100?

b. R1=100?, R2=200?

c. R1=200?, R2=400?

Explanation / Answer

a)i=12/(50*100/150)=0.36,v1=v2=12(as resistor connected parallel) b)i=12/(100*200/300)=0.18,v1=v2=12(as resistor connected parallel) c)i=12/(200*400/600)=0.09 ,v1=v2=12(as resistor connected parallel)
