Question

Mass A = 8.00 kg
Mass B = 7.00 kg
mu sub k is 0.25

mu sub s is 0.3

Question

a) Find acceleration if the inclines are frictionless

b) find acceleration if the inclines have friction

*note*
The coefficient of friction between the surfaces are the same for both blocks.

Explanation / Answer

a) on block A

8gsin20 - T = 8a

on B, T - 7gsin30 = 7a

add both eqtn,

8gsin20 - 7gsin30 = 15a

a = - 0.50 m/s2

accelration is 0.50 m/s2 for block A its upwards along wedge for block b its downrwrds.

b) now friction will also come in action,

on block A

N = 8gcos20 & f = N

8gsin20 - T - 0.25 x 8gcos20 = 8a

on B, T - 7gsin30 - 0.25 x 7gcos30 = 7a

add both eqtn,

8gsin20 - 2gcos20 - 7gsin30 + 1.75gcos30 = 15a

a = - 0.74 m/s2
