You are given the biochemical pathway below. Seven mutant strains (labeled S1 S7) are defective in this pathway and cannot produce the end product when provided with minimal media. Each mutant strain is defective in only the one step indicated by the path. The answer would be " none of these " because the mutant strains are defective in the pathway and cannot produce the end product.
Suppose as S1 cannot produce A from the precursor 1 , we give metabolite A . but this A cannot be converted to K by S2 and therefore lets assume we add metabolite K but still this K cannot be converted to B. Suppose we add all the metabolite.
The problem would occur in the final step because the final strain is a mutant strain and it cannot convert M to End product.
If the Final step did not had that mutant strain , addition of only metabolite M would have produced the end product , other metabolites would not be required.
