Question

Crazy Zack is caught in the middle of a frictionless frozen pond. He carries only his Chemistry (not physics) book (mass = 0.95kg) which he has been wanting to toss since the beginning of the semester. Zack is 30.0m from the closest shoreline and he tosses his Chem book at a velocity of 40.0m/s (as hard as he could) in the direction opposite the nearest shoreling. Zack's weight is 850N. how long does it take him to slide to the near shoreline? Can someone answer and show all work and formulas used to get the answer so that I can understand how to do this question.

Explanation / Answer

40 x 0.95 x 9.8 = v x 850 v = 0.438 m/s t = 30/v = 68.47 sec
