Question

INFO An insect 1.2 mm tall is placed 1 mm beyond the focal point of the objective lens of a compound microscope. The objective lens has a focal length of 10 mm , the eyepiece a focal length of 30 mm. The image fored by the objective lens is 110 mm away from the lens. the image is 12 mm tall, the focal point of eye piece is 30 mm. BUT What is the ovr all magnification. I tried a couple ways, and i can tel u right now, the answer is not 120, 210, or 65. Show how to find the real answer to the overall magnification of the microscope

Explanation / Answer

An insect 1.20 mm tall is placed 1.00 mm beyond the focal point of the objective lens of a compound microscope. The objective lens has a focal length of 12.0 mm, the eyepiece a focal length of 25.0mm. Part C: If you want to place the eyepiece so that the image it produces is at infinity, how far should this lens be from the image produced by the objective lens? Answer: 25 mm Part D: Under the conditions of part C, find the overall magnification of the microscope. ??? The eyepiece has a focal length of 25.0mm. If the eyepiece has to produce the image at infinity, the object has to be placed at its focal point. Here the object is the the image produced by the objective lens. Hence the answer is 25 mm ===================================== Overall magnification of the microscope is infinity.
