Can anyone help me with this question:
(Powerworld simulator is optional) What the single-line diagram would be look like and what are the unknown value? What are the recommendation should be consider and take account for the planned substation ?
A new Industrial Town is planned to be built and it is anticipated with peak load of about 380 MW and 150 MVAR. In order to accommodate these loads, a new substation will need to be constructed at the industrial town location. It needs to receive electricity at the 345 kV As a planning engineer, you are responsible to insure that the new sub station will not cause any problem to the existing system (i.e. bus voltage within allowable range). Table 4 shows the line specifications that are available for the construction of the new substation. Table 4 Line parameters From bus To busR (pu)X(pu)B(pu)Maximum MVA (pu) 6.0 6.0 6.0 4 0.00270.03 0.528 0.00180.02 0.352 0.00230.025 0.4 1- Use the given data as an input data to model the system in the Powerorld simulator 2-For each bus k, determine the variables Ps and Ok. Note that the entire line flows and bus voltage magnitudes should be within their limits. Yoiu can also modify the bus voltage by adding shunt capacitor bank. Prepare a report that presents your recommendations for the planned substation. The recommendations should be supported with simulation results and discussions.Explanation / Answer
A substation is like a junction point . Many transmission lines at different different voltage levels terminate at substation, Shut down of the substation means shutdown of all the lines at the substation,so clearly a substation is a very important unit of power system. There are some factors that need to be considered while planning of a substation.
Design & Size - Future expansion or renovation of the substation may be required. Proper design of substation enables it to operate in normal state for maximum possible time and avoiding overloading to the maximum. It is true that many substations need expansion and renovation with time. So for substation planning, future expansion must be considered.
One more important factor to be considered is that the site should be near to the load center keeping in view the future load growth.
