Question

A dart, mass 28 grams, moves horizontally with a velocity of magnitude 14.1 m/s. It strikes and sticks into a wooden block, mass 0.3 kg. The block is hung from a string as shown. Assume the collision of the dart and block takes placed so quickly that the string remains vertical during the collision. Find h, the height at which the block stops. Give your answer in centimeters
I know to set up mass x velocity then solve for h in 1/2mv^2=mgh, but not sure why velocity isn't working out Set it equal to 300gs but not sure why its wrong

Explanation / Answer

in 1/2mv*2 m is 28 g and in mgh it is 328g now check
