Which of the above characteristics cannot tolerated in a digital control systemExplanation / Answer
Assuming the x values come from a 12 bit ADC and the moving average filter has 8 taps. We know moving average filter is a low pass finite impulse response (FIR) filter used for smoothening the array of sampled data or signal.
It takes M input signals and gives the average of those 'M' signals at the output.
12 bit ADC has ability to detect 212 = 4096 discrete analog levels.
As the moving average filter has 8 taps, it has N-1 = 7 Stage delay.
The 8 taps have the input of 28 = 256 discrete analog levels.
The maximum value of y is the average of those inout of the 8 taps = 256/8 = 32
(b)
Flaoting point math is a arithmetic which uses the formuliac representation of thereal numbers.
Floating point refers to the decimla values at the output . for example 2.77 , 4.56 etc
The above filter which is a moving filter gives the average of the 'M' input signals which may also be a decimal value . for example if the moving filter has 6 taps the average output of the filter is 26/6 = 10.66
Hence we can conclude that the above filter works with floating point math.
