Question

Ch 3.

1.What are the analytical / mathematical/ material science aspects of the illustrated DFM, DFA, DFQ, and DFx challenges and solutions? Upon what scientific principles do they operate?

2.What are the major DFM, DFA, DFQ, and DFx processes that make the machines / services operate as illustrated? (Create an object-oriented process model showing how objects / modules interact with each other).

3.How are these processes integrated and controlled from a quality perspective? What are the process parameters and the limitations? How can you measure the process parameters, and then quality control them?

4.What are the major DFM, DFA, DFQ, and DFx application areas of the machines/ processes discussed in this case?

5.How do you see the future of quality designs, from a concurrent product/ process, or in other words, from a modular, reusable-component design point of view?

6.As a DFM, DFA, DFQ, and DFx manager in charge, how would you assure, that quality is designed into the product / process / service?

Explanation / Answer

1). Designing effective product geometry is one thing but selecting the right material is important.knowing the limitations of the slected material will ensure it is easily manufactured to the specified geometry, easily assembled, and operates properly during the lifetime of the product.

4). For machines and equipment designing a easily manufactured part will allow for a simple yet efficient computer controlled manufacturing process.since machines are not as complex and smart a simple assembly produce will allow for high quality assembly rate.designing quality check point into the part will keep the defect rate low and inspection cost down.

5). designing parts that are reusable will allow for a product to increase the manufacturing quantities and drive cost down.this will also reduce design time for future products but will require more upfront thinking.but that is an attribute of TQM.

6). Beeing a manager i would have a great understanding of every aspect of the designing attributes so i could tell when a product is not properly designed.lso encouraging my employees to talk to the assemblers, manufactures, and quality inspectors about their dsigns would greatly benfit the designs.
