Question

Consider the support of a 2-way video calling application (such as Facetime or Skype) on a telecommunications network. A key objective of such an application will be minimisation of end to-end delay.

Suppose that, when using this service, both ends connect to the Internet via LANs operating at 10 Mbit/s. Comment on the following statement:

“Provided that the core network and all switches and routers will operate at higher bit rates (i.e. above 10 Mbit/s), and there is sufficient capacity to support the stream of packets, then the bit rates of the core network have no impact on the quality of service we experience.”

Is this true? Explain.

Explanation / Answer

No it is not true, high bit rate of core network provide you a high speed communication. In video calling end to end delay of the network must be negligible for high quslqua experience. For that reason bit rate of core network must be high, if it not so then there may be some glitches which affect data transfer rate and degrade wusliquof the video. Hence bit rate affect video quality experience.
