Question

Pleae provide the formula used (and show work) while providing the final answer. Thank you very much.

1.       Recall that capacitance is found from the equation: C = e0A/d. If a dielectric material is inserted into the gap between the plates of a capacitor, the capacitance is changed by a factor of k. This factor is the resulting change in the permittivity of the material within the capacitor (the addition of the dielectric material). The new permittivity is now E = Ke0. plexiglass has a dielectric constant of 3.4. Assuming there is no change in the permeability (so that u = u0) use Equations 1 and 3 to determine the index of refraction of plexiglass.

Explanation / Answer

n = sqrt(k) = sqrt(3.4) = 1.84
