Question

The five diagrams show portions of systems of pipes (with circular cross sections) where a non-viscous incompressible fluid enters at the left and leaves from the right. The diameters of some of the pipes are indicated. The views are either top views of pipe systems in the horizontal plane, or side views of pipe systems in the vertical plane. Find the largest pressure in each diagram and enter your answer from the list of choices below. E.g., if P1 is largest for the first diagram and P2 is largest for the other diagrams, enter ABBBB.

please write the process, Thanks

A) P1 is largest B) P2 is largest C) P3 is largest D) Cannot tell side view 2 R

Explanation / Answer

As you might be knowing that Pressure is inversely proportional to the Area of Flow of Fluid

Therefore, As Area increases , Pressure decreases and vice-versa

Therefore in the above diagrams by just analysing the area and height at which the liquid flows,we can determmine the pressure at certain points,

Therefore as per the Diagram1

1) The Pressure at point 1 (P1) is the Largest as the area of Flow is less, and P2 is less than P1 as the area of Flow is more and it is above point 1. As the liquid is flowing from 1 to 2 therefore 2 is at lower pressure. therefore P1

As per Diagram 2

2) As point 2 is lower than point 1 and 2, therfore due to force of gravity and height, the pressure at 2 will be highest. therefore P2

As per Diagram 3

3) As the area through which the liquid has to pass is least at point 2, therefore pressure will be maximum at point point 2, Therefore P2

As per Diagram 4

4) Area at point 2 is least, therefore pressure is maximum at point 2, Therefore P2

As per Diagram 5

5) As Area at point 3 is least, therefore P3

Therefore the Answer is ABBBC
