Max is 25 years old. He has recently been told by the doctor that his cholesterol is high and he may be at risk for heart disease in the future. Max has never been too diligent on health concerns and is not very educated when it comes to health-related choices. High cholesterol runs in his family and he is worried that he will eventually face a variety of different health complications. Max has decided that he wants to make a change but is not sure where to start. He comes to you (a health promotion specialist) and asks you about creating a behavior change plan. High cholesterol is also known as hypercholesteremia, such people are at higher risk of heart attacks, strokes, and peripheral artery diseases.

How Does Cholesterol Cause Heart Diseases

High cholesterol in blood tend to deposit on the walls of arteries leading to hardening

of the arteries cause narrowing of arteries resulting in slower blood flow due to blockage.

Not all the cholesterol is bad to body.

High cholesterol tends to run in families, so obviously genes play a role and it might be the major reason in this case but there are range of lifestyle factors as diet, activity, and & bodyweight. Hence there is needed to take precautions as desired.

To reduce the cholesterol there is need to cut the amount of saturated fat and trans fats in diet.

It is also advisable to cut meat & poultry. It also means eating less fried food & processed food and high rich sugar foods.

It is also important to increase the amount of soluble fibers in diet it’s advisable to take oatmeal, kidney beans & apples.

In case of overweight or obese there is need to lose cholesterol levels.

Regular exercise is highly advisable at least brisk walk for 30-minute lower LDL levels specially need to cut the abdominal fat.
