I choose my job position and focus on the area of HIV.

1. In the USA around 1.2 million people are living with AIDS. Especially it is increased in the areas of New York, California, Maryland, Texas, and Florida. Around 18.8 million people died of Aids in worldwide and about 34.3 million were infected with HIV. As the remarkable progress made in improving the duration of life of infectious patients but still persons are struggling with HIV because it is only preventable not curable. Hiv is transmitted through body fluids include blood, vaginal secretions, amniotic fluid, and breast milk. It also transmitted from mother to baby in the womb during delivery.

The effective education only can eliminate the HIV infection. HIV affects the immune system of the patient. The patients have inadequate knowledge of HIV care, treatment, and prognosis. There are many barriers to promoting quality life to the patient. It is a challengeable area in the healthcare system.

2. Nurses should have knowledge of understanding of the disease and should apply practical skills when working with the patient. They should gain a thorough knowledge of the physical and psychological consequences associated with the HIV infection. The key competencies in caring for HIV patient is essential. They have to support the patient as well as the family members in treating of the HIV patient. The Nursing competencies help them to provide effective care. Because the nurse is the first person in caring for the patient.

Knowledge of HIV infection:

AS HIV is a chronic disease, antiretroviral therapy helps the patients to sustain with a normal expectancy of life. Nurses must have a training in caring for the patient and makes them satisfactory. They should have enough knowledge of the associated symptoms and secondary diagnosis that could affect the patient living condition. They should educate the people about safe sex practices, uses of contraceptives and oral contraceptives.

Ethical competence:

People affected by HIV infection have fear and anxiety and unwilling to share their thoughts and experiences. They feel isolated and withdrawn from the social activities. stigmatization, gender inequality are the barriers for the nurses. So, nurses have to work as per the ethical guidelines and to fight against the HIV infection.

Cultural competence:

Nurses must be prepared for the meeting of cultural competence of the patients. They should value their the cultural and religious values. They should shape their values and beliefs. For EX: homosexual relationship. Nurses must act as a professionalism in their workplace. They must know how to approach and communicate with the patient.
