Bad debts expense to be recorded on December 31, 2017 = $41,650 - $14,500 = $27,150

On writing off accounts receivable, allowance for doubtful account will be debited and accounts receivables will be credited by $4,750. It does not impact Jarden 2018 net income as the provision already recorded in books in 2017 for estimated bad debts.
