Question
Please help with this Pharmacolgy question. Thank you! A 44-year-old man was admitted to the health care professional's unit with a fractured femur from a motor vehicle accident. He is tossing about in bed and moaning in extreme pain. He rates his pain as a 10 on a scale of 0 to 10, with 0 representing no pain and 10 representing the worst possible pain. His blood pressure, pulse rate, and respiratory rate are all elevated, most likely related to his pain. Considering what is known about the onset of drug action, which route of drug administration would be the most appropriate for this patient and why?Explanation / Answer
For bone fractures usually treated by non surgical and surgical managements.
first nonsurgical management will be given ,then conservative approach based on severity of the fracture.
here non surgical management includes the pain relieving medications ,
*ibuprofen (caldolor 400-800 mg IV infusion over 30 minutes) will be administerd for sever pain management.
as the pain is severe 10 on pain scale measures need to give the immediate relief of the pain, and also it give slight sedation which reduces the anxiety of the patient.
other choice of drugs for fracture pain are,
-vicodin
-acetaminophen with codeine,
