Missing section 3-a and 3-b (last two questions).

DataSpan, Inc., automated its plant at the start of the current year and installed a flexible manufacturing system.

DataSpan, Inc., automated its plant at the start of the current year and installed a flexible manufacturing system. The company is also evaluating its suppliers and moving toward Lean Production. Many adjustment problems have been encountered, including problems relating to performance measurement. After much study, the company has decided to use the performance measures below and it has gathered data relating to these measures for the first four months of operations Month Throughput time (days) Delivery cycle time (days) Manufacturing cycle efficiency (MCE) Percentage of on-time deliveries Total sales (units 78% 79% 84% 91% 10.580 10,450 10.580 10,450 Management has asked for your help in computing throughput time, delivery cycle time, and MCE The following average times have been logged over the last four months Average per Month (in da Move time per unit Process time per unit Wait time per order before start of production Queue time per unit Inspection time per unit 0.7 0.7 0.7 0.5 0.6 0.7 0.4 0.4 9.4 8.0 5.0 4.0 3.2 3.5 2.3 2.1 0.5 0.6 0.4 0.4

Explanation / Answer

1. Throughput time is the time which required to convert raw material into completed product then this time is called thoughput time.

Throughput time = Move time + Process time + Queue Time + Inspection Time

Month 1 Month 2   Month 3 Month 4

Throughput time (0.7 + 0.6 +3.2 + 0.5 = 5 Days) (0.7+ 0.7+3.5+0.6 = 5.5) (0.7+0.4+2.3+0.4 = 3.8)

(0.5+0.4+2.1+0.4 = 3.4)

Delivery cycle time is same sa throughput time but is includes wait time also.

Delivery Time = (5 + 9.4 = 14.4) (5.5 + 8 = 13.5) (3.8 + 5 = 8.8) (4 + 3.4 = 7.4)

Manfacturing Cycle Efficiency = There are two types of time at production of a finished product 1. Value added time which shows Process time like time taken to convert raw materiaal into finished product i.e process Time, 2, non value added time represented that time which do not include process time or conversion time it includes move time, queue time, inspection time. Percentage of vlaue added time from throughput time is called MCE.

Manfacturing Cycle Efficiency (MCE) = Value added time/ Throughput time

MCE = ( 0.6/5 = 0.12 ) (0.7/5.5 = 0.13 ) (0.4/3.8 = 0.11 ) (0.4/3.4 = 0.12)
