Question

In “The False Income-Inequality Narrative,” Jason L. Riley argues that fairness is not about getting money from more productive persons and giving it to less productive persons because welfare breeds passivity and make people have less desire to work; disparities are “normal” since pure fairness doesn’t exist due to demographic, cultural and other factors; shining immigrants show that citizens are still able to find opportunities to grow without being subsidized.

Prompt:

I want you to write your own "agree/disagree BUT" thesis statement in response points made in the previous statements. I don't want a simple "agree" or "disagree" response -- I want something more nuanced. For example, you may write, "I agree with this part of author's argument but not this other part,"

Then, I want you write two or three sentences in which you IDENTIFY and RESPOND TO (AGREE/DISAGREE WITH) two or three specific claims that the author makes or uses.

Explanation / Answer

I don’t agree this narrative. If we tall on holistic level to be a productive person both the things are required efforts as well as positive demographic, cultural and other factor. The saying “since pure fairness doesn’t exist due to demographic, cultural and other factors; shining immigrants show that citizens are still able to find opportunities to grow without being subsidized” cannot be applied universally there may be people who can perform but that will be exceptional category. If we want to compare whole population on a level of productivity we will have to bring parity to the extent that the demographic, culture and other factor benefit could be common across the population. Of course above this limit if money will be given to less productive person from more productive people then if will result in less desire to work.
