Explanation / Answer

Different parts of Medicare cover different health related services and the 4 parts of Medicare services and related services provided by each of the part is given as follows.

Part A (Hospital Insurance) covers most basic hospital services, skilled facility of nursing and home health. All these facilities are free if social security tax is paid for a period of 40 quarters.

Part B (Medical Insurance) covers doctor’s services, preventive care, outpatient services of hospital. It also provides Laboratory tests, X-rays and ambulance services.

Part C (is not a separate benefit but a Medicare advantage) is a part of total Medicare policy package and it let private health insurance companies to provide benefits. These plans are called Medicare advantage plans and include HMOs and PPOs.

Part D (Outpatient prescription drug insurance) covers outpatient prescription drug medicine. This coverage is alone provided by the private health insurance companies but not directly from government.

In order to enroll part A, participants must pay Medicare services for the period of 10 years. No premium is required to pay.

In order to enroll part B the monthly standard premium is $99.90 in 2012.

Monthly premium is required to pay to avail this Part C advantage.
