Question

I need help with this question. Thanks

Anna works on an assembly line where it takes her thirty minutes to produce twenty units of a product needed to fill a container. It takes her an additional five minutes to transport the container to Josh, who works at the next station. The company uses a safety stock of 20 percent. The current assembly line uses five kanbans between Anna’s and Josh’s stations. Compute the demand for the product. (Round answer to 2 decimal places, e.g. 15.25.)

Demand for the product ____________ units

Explanation / Answer

Say the unit works for 8hrs and hence there is 480 minutes of production time.

Each container needs 35 mins in total so total number of containers = 480/35*5 = 69 containers = 69*20 units = 1380 units

Therefore demand = 1380/120%*100% = 1150 units.
