Question
Plants are now having to adapt to the increasing atmospheric carbon dioxide and a decrease in water caused by climate change. For this question, you must cite at least 1 peer-reviewed source.
1. Water levels are declining while atmospheric carbon dioxide and temperature are rising. How will this affect the light reactions? How will it affect the Calvin cycle?
2. How will plants have to evolve in places that are extremely dry and hot? For full credit, discuss their roots, stomata, and leaves.
Remember that you must cite at least 1 peer-reviewed source for full credit.
Explanation / Answer
1. Water is required for regeneration of PS-II via photolysis lf water and is important in generation of reducing power in light reaction. Water defict conditions lessen the availability of water or electrons for regeneration of PS-II and also decrease the rate pf generation of reducing powers which fix carbon dia oxide in dark reaction or calvincycle and overall rate of photosynthesis is decreased.
2. Plants are adapted to water defict conditions by developing root system excessively. And also to decrease the water loss by transpiration stomata are shunken type and leaves form a thick cuticle which reduce water loss by transpiration and it become available for photosynthetic light reaction.
