Question
Correctly respond to the following questions on protein synthesis, by recording the phrase that describes each stage. a) Which stage in protein synthesis is the enzyme peptidyl transferase utilized? (2 pts.) 56) b) Which stage in protein synthesis is the protein modified? e.g., acquisition of carbohydrates, coenzymes, etc. (2 pts.) c Which stage in protein synthesis is the enzyme aminoacyl-tRNAsvnthetase utilized? (2 pts.) activation d) Which stage in protein synthesis is the protein "release factor" utilized? (2 pts.) e Which stage in protein synthesis is the reading frame established? (2 pts.) initiationExplanation / Answer
Ans a) Peptidyl transferase is an enzyme which helps in the primary stage of protein synthesis. The enzyme is responsible for formation of peptide bonds between adjacent amino acids using the tRNAs. The activity is carried out by ribosome and is not mediated by any ribosomal proteins.
Ans b) The elongation stage of protein synthesis is one which is responsible for addition of various elements like carbohydrates, co-enzymes etc and helps with the process of protein modification.
Ans c) The aminoacyl tRNA synthetase is an enzyme which helps in attachment of the amino acid into tRNA. This helps in the charging of the tRNA and helps in transferring the amino acid to the growing polypeptide chain. This is used in the elongation stage of protein synthesis.
Ans d) The protein release factor is a protein which is used in the termination of the process of protein synthesis. It helps in termination process.
Ans e) The reading frame is established in the protein elongation stage. Reading frame is a set of three amino acid that cluster into codon.
