Question

An offshore oil well is leaking oil and creating circular oil slick. If radius of the slick is growing at a rate of 4 miles per hour find the rate at which the area is increasing when the radius is 8 miles . The area of a disc of radius r is A = pi r^2. An offshore oil well is leaking oil and creating circular oil slick. If radius of the slick is growing at a rate of 4 miles per hour find the rate at which the area is increasing when the radius is 8 miles . The area of a disc of radius r is A = pi r^2.

Explanation / Answer

ans:- dA/dt = 2*pi*r*(dr/dt)

dr/dt=4 , r=8

hence =>dA.dt= 64*pi

so the  the rate at which the area is increasing when the radius is 8 miles is 64*pi.
