Please help me these questions, many thanks!

(2) Sonia needs to open a water valve with a 3 cm long handle. Sue usually opens the valve and being stronger than Sonia, Sue can open the valve by applying a force of 120 Newtons. However, Sue is at work so Sonia must open the valve. The problem is that Sonia is only capable of applying a force of 25 Newtons. Sonia telephones Sue to ask for advice. Sue suggest placing a metal pipe over the end of the valve to increase her torque. Determine how long that pipe must be. (3) Consider the equat42 +2-0 (a) Determine the number of x C satisfying this equation. How many are distinct? (b) Find all of the x satisfying this equation. (c) Express the above solutions in polar form d) For one of the solutions x, find the exact value of and determine the modulus of x55

Explanation / Answer

2). We know that

Torque = r × F

Where R is the distance of handle from hinged portion

And F is the applied force. So the net torque will be same for Sue and Sonia to open the gate.

120 × 3 = 25 ×(3 + x)

(X + 3) = 14.4

Then value of X = 14.4 - 3 = 11.4 cm.

Pipe must be of length 11.4 cm to open the door.
