Explanation / Answer

(a) Given that, f(x)=ex and g(x)=xf(x).

Now, Pn(x) and Qn(x) are defined as the Maclaurin polynomials of f(x) and g(x) of degree n.

Now, P2(x)=1+x+x2/2 and Q3(x)=x+x2+x3/2=x(1+x+x2/2)=xP2(x).

Hence, the relationship between the polynomials is, Q3(x)=xP2(x).

(b) If f(x)=sin(x), then P3(x)=x+x3/6.

It is also given that g(x)=xsin(x)

Using the result of part (a), we get Q4(x)=xP3(x)

Therefore, Q4(x)=x(x+x3/6)=x2+x4/6.

(c) If f(x)=sin(x), then P3(x)=x+x3/6.

It is also given that g(x)=(sin(x))/x

Using the result of part (a), we get Q2(x)=(P3(x))/x

Therefore, Q2(x)=(x+x3/6)/x=x+x2/6.
