6. A paper mill converts pulpwood to low. medium and high grade newsprint. The pulpwrood requirements for earh newspr ton) are shown below: ?nt, availability of each pulpwood, and selling Prim (per Low Medium High | Available grade grade grade (tons) Virginia pine 2 White pine Loblolly pine 1 180 2 160 Price- $900 1000 $1200 The associated linear program ?? Explanation / Answer

a) Here X1: denote number of units of low grade to be produced

X2: denote number of units of medium grade to be produced

X3: denote number of units of high grade to be produced

from obtimum simplex table we have otimum solution is

X1=84, X2=2 and X3=12

hence to maximize profit 84 untis of the low grade newsprits (X1) should be produced and 12 units of high grade newsprints should be produced

b) It is not possible to produce 100 units of the medium grade paper. because it can not satisfy first two constraints.

c) Since optimal solution does not contain medium grade newsprints. hence thre is no effect of medium grade price.
