Question

Please type in the answers Question 1 (8 Marks) Will eating a special high carbohydrate meal the night before an athlete runs a 10 kilometre race affect the time taken? Design an experiment to answer this question. In your answer indicate how you have applied the three major features of any good experiment. A flow-chart schematic with full annotations may be used to describe the structure of the design a) b) State what type of data summary statistics you would plan to measure. cState what specific type of inferential analysis you plan to apply to answer the question (No actual analysis is done no data yet!)

Explanation / Answer

ANSWER:-

a)

we have to keep in mind that the sample size is large enough for experiment so avoid small sample bias.

So we consider 100 athletes, 50 of them were provided with the meal and 50 we're not and we assume no other kind of variability is present in the data.

So we randomly select the sample of 100 athletes from a larger population and then divide them in two groups randomly.

b)

Here we take the average run time and standard deviation of the run time of 50 athletes provided with the carbohydrate meal and we also do the same for 50 athletes who are not provided with the meal.

c)

we will apply two-sample t-test for comparison of their average run times.

one sample comes from athletes who are provided with carbohydrate meal and other sample comes from athletes who are not provided with Carbohydrate meal.
