I would like to get some information for my presentation. My presentation is about effect of Wettability on the Electrical Properties of Reservoir Rocks. Can someone provide me with some information or a short report regarding the subject? I would like to get some information for my presentation. My presentation is about effect of Wettability on the Electrical Properties of Reservoir Rocks. Electrical property of a rock depends on the pore geometry and fluid saturation or fluid ditribution.
Electrical property of reservoirs also vary with porosity and fluid characteristics in the pore spaces.
In reservoir electrical property is define on the basis of its electrical resistivity.
Electrical resistivity of any material is related to the resistance by the following equation.
R = (r*a)/L
a = area in square meters of rock material exposed to the current flow
L = length of material in meter r = electrical resistance in ohms
R = electrical resistivity expressed in ohm?meter
Resistivity defined as electrical resistance offered by a unit cube of formation. Resistivity depends mainly upon porosity, formation water salinity, water saturation and clay contents etc.
Resistivity response in reservoir rocks depends on the fluid nature, which are as follows:-
Resistivity (R) is measured by electrical logs
• Rock is high R (low conductivity)
• Oil is high R • Pure Water is high R
• Salt water is low R
• Drilling mud can be either high or low R depending on whether saline or fresh water is used.
Resistivity behaviour of diffrenet rocks are as follows
• Low resistivity and low negative self potential usually indicate occurrence of shale.
• High resistivity and low self potential are indicative of limestone, salt, gypsum, coal etc.
• Low resistivity and high negative self potential indicates salt water sand.
• High resistivity and high negative self potential usually indicate oil or gas bearing sand.
