Suppose that you are asked to find out the opinions of the residents in a small county about the location of a supermarket in the outskirts of the city. No sampling frame is available, but you can get the data you want from the county about the gender, age group, and social class of the residents. A 5% quota for each group is enough to get an overall opinion of the residents . Total number of residents: 100000
Gender as % of population: 55% Male, 45% Female
Age groups as % of population: 16-29 (25%); 30-44 (30%); 45-64 (30%); 65+ (15%)
Social Class as % of population: A (30%); B (50%); C (20%)
Devise a quota sampling for this example using Excel. Do the following:
Download the Excel file SamplingWithExcel_QuotaSampling to your user space (or to a USB).
Start Excel and open the worksheet “QuotaSampling"
Use relative or absolute references to the cells (where necessary) to enter appropriate formulae to calculate the number of people to be surveyed in each category.
Change population (e.g. 50000, 6000) and quota (e.g. 2%, 1%) figures to observe the changes in each category.
