Question

Hi All,
The below is my statistics problem. Hope you guys can help me!!!

This study found that people who used pedometers reported having increased energy, mood improvement, and weight loss. State possible null and alternative hypotheses for the study. What would be a likely population? what is the sample size? Comment on the sample size.

HD Health: Step to It
It fits in your hands, costs less than $30, and will make you feel great. Give up? A pedometer. Brenda Rooney, an epidemiologist at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center In LaCrosse, Wis., gave 500 people pedometers and asked them to take 10,000 steps about five miles a day. (Office workes typically average about 4,000 steps a day .)by the end of 8 weeks, 56 percent reported having more energy, 47 percent improved their mood and 50 percent lost weight. The subject reported that seeing their total step-count motivated them to take more.

I give you these signs below. It may easy for you to text.
= , = , µ , > , < , v , s , ¯X (sample mean)
H0: Null hypothesis
H1: Alternative hypothesis

Thanks,

Explanation / Answer

At first i would like to say about population,sample and sample size.
Population: the aggrigate of whole objective under taking charcter or characterstic is called Population. it may contain animate or in animate. and also it may finite or infinite, it is denoted by N.
Sample: A finite part of population is called sample. it is always finite.
Sample size: The number of units in the sample is called sample size, it is denoted by n.
Null hypotheses: The statement of given data according to object is called null hypotheses, It always taken as no signifucant of no difference between parameters, it is denoted by H0.
Alternative hypotheses: The against of null hypotheses is called alternative hypotheses, it is denoted by H1.
by the given data
H0: there is no difference between mood, weight loss and energy.
H1: there is difference between mood, weight loss and energy.
N=500
energy =5.6
mood 4.7
weight loss 5.00
energy 5.6*4000=2240,
mood 4.7*4000=1880,
weight 5*4000=2000.
2240+1880+2000=6120
1000-6120=3880
