You're your team, try to list all of the possible amounts of time that Mo-Qui could spend studying Spanish. How many solution solutions are there? d. What is the smallest amount of time that Mo-Qui could spend studying Spanish? What is the largest amount of time?Explanation / Answer
a. Let the amounts of time spent by Mo-Qui studying History and Spanish be x hours and y hours respectively. Then y = x +(1/2).
b. If Mo Qui has spent 2 hours and 15 minutes (i.e. 2.25 hours) studying Spanish, but he is not yet finished, then, we have y > 2.25 and hence x+1/2 > 2.25 so that x > 2.25-1/2 or, x > 1.75. Thus, x > 1.75 and y > 2.25.
c. Since y > 2.25, the list of all possible amounts of time that Mo Qui could spend studying Spanish is 2 hour, 26 minutes, 2 hour, 27 minutes, 2 hour, 28 minutes etc. There are infinite solutions here.
d. The smallest amount of time that Mo Qui could spend studying Spanish is 2 hours, 25 minutes, 1 second ( if we round off to a second). The largest amount of time that Mo Qui could spend studying Spanish is infinite.
