Question
In your biology class, your final grade is based on several things: Labs are 25%, Exams are 45%, and the Final is 30%. Suppose your lab score is 92%, the scores on three exams are 80, 91, and 90.
a. What is your overall percent before the final? Write your answer in percent form rounded to 2 decimal places.
b. What score do you need on the final in order to receive an A in the class? Assume a standard grading scale. Write your answer in percent form rounded to 2 decimal places.
c. If your final exam score is 85, what is your overall percent in the class? Write your answer in percent form rounded to 2 decimal places.
Explanation / Answer
a)Lab is 25% and you got 23% since your lab score is 92%.
Exams are worth 45% and you basically got 39.15% based on an average of 87% (80,90,91).
So 23%+39.15% = 62.15%
This means you're at 62.15% over the 70% of your total grade.
B)
let the required number = x
and overall percentage to get A = y
hence
62.15 + x * 0.3 = y
y can be 80 or 90 { so put accordingly , i had doubt so , i did not put the value}
solve for x by putting the value of y
c)
85 * 0.30 = 25.5
hence total = 62.15 + 25.5 = 87.65
