You need to simply make up an equation to figure out your answer, but your equation will not be 8 + x = 44 because x would equal 36 which doesn't help. Think of sums that equal 44. 24 + 20, 28 + 16, 26 + 18, etc. Of the sum examples I just gave, which one proves that Margo is 8 years older than her brother Dan? The answer is 26 + 18, but the question is "How old is her brother Dan? The solution to this question is 18. To check it, solve the equation 26 + x = 44.
