Question

Construct a rational function that will help solve the problem. Then, use a calculator to answer the question. A right circular cylinder is to have a volume of 55 cubic inches. It costs 4t/square inch to construct the top and bottom and 1t/square inch to construct the rest of the cylinder. Find the radius to yield minimum cost. Letx = radius. Let f(x) = 12x/x^2 + 4 Find the x and y-intercepts of the graph of y = f(x). The football team is planning a trip to a sports museum. The cost for renting a bus is $360. The cost will be divided equally among those going on the trip. A museum ticket costs $14.25 per person, write an equation that gives the cost of the trip per person C as a function of the number of people going on the trip. How many people must go on the trip so that the cost is no more than $20 per person?

Explanation / Answer

3.(a) Cost per person for renting the bus = $ 360/p

So, the required equation is, C = 360/p + 14.25

(b) Now, it is given that C = $20,so,from above equation, we have, 20 = 360/p + 14.25

=> 20-14.25 = 360/p

=> p = 360/5.75 = 62.60

So, the required number of person should go = 61
