Question

Qana,Qina and Quna are three lecturer that teaching Calculus subject during the short semester break. They decided to make a different set of assignment question to each student. Every set of question must consist of 5 question since Calculus subject has 4 chapters.With the knowledge of discrete mathematics,Kindly find and list all the consequence different set of assignment question if all of them only make 4 question each. And find how many maximum numbers of students can be in the short semester if each student gets different set of question.

Explanation / Answer

Let the four questions made by Qana be a1,a2,a3 and a4.

Let the four questions made by Qina be i1,i2,i3 and i4.

Let the four questions made by Quna be u1,u2,u3 and u4.

The list of all questions is S = { a1,a2,a3,a4,i1,i2,i3,i4,u1,u2,u3,u4 }

The set of all assignment questions is A = { q1,q2,q3,q4,q5 }

where q1 q2 q3 q4 q5 and A S.

There are 12 questions and each student gets a unique combination of 5 questions out of them.

So total number of different 5 question sets possible = 12C5

= (12*11*10*9*8) / (5*4*3*2*1) = 792.

So the maximum number of students in the short semester if each student gets different set of question = 792.
