Question
Please help with this problem and elaborate...THANK YOU!
Americans take 80 million aspirin tablets a day, mostly to reduce the risk of heart disease. Suppose that a pharmacy receives a large shipment of aspirin tablets labeled as containing 325 mg of the active ingredient acetylsalicylic acid. Let mu denote the actual mean amount of the active ingredient, per tablet, for all the tablets in the shipment. For quality control purpose a sample of aspirin tablets will be selected and analyzed ti test H_0:mu=325 versus H_A: mu not equal sign 325. If the null hypothesis is rejected then the entire shipment of aspirin tablets will be returned. In the context of the problem what is a Type I error? In the context of the problem what is a Type II error?Explanation / Answer
a)type 1 error are those when we incorrectly reject th correct null hypothesis in this context it can be that the mean of the active ingredient is equal to 325 but we incorrectly rejected the null hypothesis
b) type 2 error are those when we fail to reject the false null hypothesis in this ontect it can be that the mean active content is somewhere less then or more then 325 but we have accepted the null hypothesis.
