Question

The figure below shows three circuits, each consisting of a switch and two capacitors, initially charged as indicated. Let q_L represent the charge on the left-hand capacitor in each circuit. The switches in all circuits are then closed. Which of these statements are true? (Select all that apply.) q_L in circuit 1 increases. q_L In circuit 2 increases. q_L in circuit 3 Increases. q_L in circuit 1 decreases. q_L in circuit 2 decreases. q_L in circuit 3 decreases. q_L in circuit 1 remains the same. q_L in circuit 2 remains the same. q_L in circuit 3 remains the same.

Explanation / Answer

Only capacitors are present so according to Q = CV

As V is same so Q will be distributed according to the value of capacitors

so in first circuit charges will remain same

in second circuit QL will increase

and in third circuit QL will decrease

So answer is

QL in circuit 2 increase (option 2)

QL in circuit 3 decrease (option 6)

QL in circuit 1 remains same (option 7)
