Question

The regression equation relating putting distance (in feet) and success rate (%) for professional golfers, based pm the 11 distances ranging from 5 feet to 15 feet is :    success rate =76.5-(3.95) (distance).

A) calculate the correlation coefficient and use it to interpret the relationship between putting distance and success rate. B)Would it be appropriate to predict success rate for a golfer who is putting a distance of 32 feet? explain why ? c) what does the coefficient of detmnation tell us about the predictive power of the regression line?

Explanation / Answer

Solution:

From excel we Calculated Correlation Coefficient which is -1

Which tells us that as we increase in 1 unit in Distance than Success rate will decrease by 1 unit or vice versa.

No it is not possible to predict success rate for a golfer who is puttin a distance of 32 feet, if we calcualte than success rate would go in minus which is not possible.

According to the excel i got regression table

We got that coefficient of determination is 1 which means there are only 1% variability defined by our regression model.

Distance Success Rate 5 56.75 6 52.8 7 48.85 8 44.9 9 40.95 10 37 11 33.05 12 29.1 13 25.15 14 21.2 15 17.25
