Question
Consider the charts below that represent the X chart for a certain process. Some of the charts have instances of special cause variation, while others may show good statistical control. For each chart, identify (circle) the points where statistical signals show that special cause variation is indeed occurring. Indicate the exact rule that applies

If there are outliers then there is a special occurence. For less than 100 data points if there are 6 or points above CL then there is a shift in average of the process.
I)Xbar chart looks under statistical control but range shows 2 peaks (there are 2 points above UCL) which shows occurence of special causes.
II) Xbar and range both look under statistical control.
III) Xbar chart shows a special cause since there is a peak (one point UCL). Range shows that there are 6 points consecutively above CL means there is a shift in average.
IV) Xbar shows that there are 7 points consecutively below CL means there is a shift in average. In range also similar shift is observed.
V) In Xbar chart there are 6 points consecutively below CL means there is a shift in average. But the range chart looks under statistical control.
VI) In Xbar chart there are 8 points consecutively below CL means there is a shift in average. But the range chart looks under statistical control.
