Participation. Participation was tapped with four subscales: (a) One six-item subscale included items referring to participation in the classroom and in school with hearing-impaired peers (e.g., class related: "In my mainstream classes, I talk with hearing-impaired students"; school related: "I have lunch with hearing-impaired friends"). Students responded on a 5-point scale.
A second six-item subscale was identical to the first, except that the word hearing was substituted for hearing-impaired (e.g., "In my mainstream classes, I talk with hearing students").
An additional seven-item subscale dealt with participation in out-of-school social activities with hearing-impaired friends (e.g., "Go to parties at hearing-impaired friends' homes")....
