Question

Refer to exercise 53 found on page 467 of the text. Perform the appropriate test to determine whether the mean sales differ among the locations studied. Use alpha = .05 for your test. If you find a difference exists, provide the post hoc analysis using your Minitab output as discussed in class. This problem requires the use of Minitab to perform the computations. Make sure you provide a copy of the Minitab output.

53. The Marketing Manager at Foodco, a large grocery store, wants to determine if store display location influences sales of a particular grocery item. He instructs employees to rotate the display location of that item every week and then tallies the weekly sales at each location over a 24-week period (8 weeks per location). The following sales results were obtained. Front of store (units Center of store (units Side alsle (units 947 858 1096 1106 780 1047 786 910 1143 1162 816 823 919 967 800 956 924 770 876 1057 1091 996 802 1027 811.0 Xi 1041.8 9840.0 7583.4 1418.3 944.1 a. Construct an ANOVA table. Assume sales are normally distributed. b. Specify the competing hypotheses to test whether there are some differences in the mean weekly sales across the three store display locations. c. At the 5% significance level, what is the conclusion of the test?

Explanation / Answer

a. I have created the ruisite ANOVA Table

b Null Hypothesis : H0 : There is no difference of sales at any of the places.

Alternative Hypotheis : H1 : There are significant differences in sale at these 3 places

We see p- Value = 2.64 x 10-5 , which is under significance level and also by f- test F - value > Fcritical so we can reject the null hypotheis and can say that at 5% significane level, there are significant difference in sales at the given 3 places.

I have not done this question on MATLAB but done it on excel. That also give accurate result.
