Question
Assume that you want to play a game called “who is the murderer?” with a total of seven suspects including Abigail, Blayke, Geraldo, Hunter, Joshua, Lilian, and Wil. Among them, Abigail and Lilian are girls and all the other five suspects are boys. According to the polygraph and some other technology tools, you are sure about the following clues.
The number of murderers is either one or two;
All the murderer(s) must be among them;
If Joshua is innocent, so is Hunter;
If Lilian is the murderer, the number of murderers is two;
If Blayke is a murderer, so is Wil;
If Wil is innocent, so is Geraldo;
At least one of the girls is innocent;
If Wil is a murderer, so is Abigail;
If both Hunter and Geraldo are innocent, Lilian is a murderer;
If Hunter is innocent, so is Joshua;
If Abigail is a murderer, either Blayke is a murderer or Geraldo is innocent.
Now, who did it? Why?
Explanation / Answer
I have simply numbered them and whenever I use a clue I would simply type it's no.
Let's look at clue 11, let's assume that Abigail is the murderer then, if blayke is a murderer then from clue 3 Wil is also a murderer thus blayke is not a murderer if Abigail is and thus Geraldo is innocent, and since blayke is not the murderer, therefore he is innocent.
If Abigail is the murderer the Lilian is innocent from clue 7.
Since Geraldo is innocent then if hunter is also innocent the Lilian should be the murderer from clue 9, but we have seen above that Lilian should be innocent, thus hunter must be the murderer, that means everyone except Hunter and Abigail is innocent, that means Joshua is innocent and from clue 1 we can see that hunter must be innocent, which is a contradiction, therefore Abigail cannot be murderer , because if she is the murderer the clue 11 should hold true but it doesn't.
From case 1 we conclude that Abigail is innocent.
From clue 8 if Wil is the murderer so is Abigail, but Abigail is innocent, thus Wil is Also innocent.
Since Wil is innocent, therefore from clue 6 Geraldo is also innocent.
From clue 5 If Blayke is a murderer, so is Wil, but Wil is innocent thus Blayke should also be innocent.
Till now we have proven the innocence of Abigail, Wil, Geraldo and Blayke.
Thus we're left with Hunter, Joshua and Lilian.
If Lilian is the murderer, then from clue 4, she had an accomplice, which means that either of hunter and Joshua is a murderer, that means the other guy is innocent, And from clue 3 and clue 10, if anyone of them(Joshua and hunter) is innocent then, the other guy should be innocent, If Lilian is the murderer then both Joshua and hunter which violates the clue 4, therefore Lilian is innocent.
And now we're left with Joshua and hunter, either both of them are the murderers or both of them are innocent, (the innocence argument is backed by clue 3 and 10).
Since both can't be innocent, therefore Joshua and hunter, are the murderers.
