Question
Pokemon cards Back in 2001, Wizards of the Coast, the corporation that manufactured and distributed Pokemon cards from 1998 to 2003, claimed that each pack of Pokemon cards contained exactly one rare card and that there was a one-in-three chance that the rare card was a hologram card. Fill in the blanks: If you had purchased 15 packs of Pokemon cards, you would have ended up with about ___ hologram cards, give or take about ___ hologram cards. Back in 2001, I purchased 15 packs of Pokemon cards for my son (then six years old). We were pleased to find that the 15 packs actually did contain a total of 15 rare cards, but we were disappointed that we ended up with only one hologram card. Assuming that Wizards of the Coast was telling the truth, how unlucky were we?Explanation / Answer
according to the information each pack contains exacly one rare card and the chance that the rare card is hologram is 1/3 ie.p(rare card is hologram card )=1/3
a) you purchase 15 card then according to the given information you would have exactly 15 rare cards and out of these cards no. of hologram cards=15*1/3=5 and if all the rare cards are to be found that are holocard then the maximum no.of rare card is to be hologram card is 15
b)in 15 packs we get 15 rare card and the expected no. of hologram card is 15*1/3=5, but the actual no. of hologram card is 1. so the difference is 5-1=4.so you are 4/5=0.8*100=80 % unlucky.
