Question

Please answer the following question by using te 8 steps of hypothesis in this order ( I have attached the SPSS Output):

1. State H0 and H1

2. Select appropriate statistical test

3. Indicate if test is Directional or Nondirectional

4. Specify alpha (), n, and df (if appropriate)

5. Obtain observed value from SPSS output

6. Obtain p-value associated with observed value from SPSS output

7. Make appropriate decision regarding H0

Compare p-value to alpha level ()

If p-value £ alpha level, Reject H0

If p-value > alpha level, Do Not Reject H0

8. State conclusion (interpret results) in words

For Problems 1-2, include all 8 Steps of Hypothesis Testing. For each problem, use the significance level approach (i.e. p-value from SPSS). For each problem, failure to turn in SPSS output will result in an automatic zero that problem. 1. Aresearcher wants to determine people's favorite color for automobiles. She asks 60 people to choose from among four popular colors. The number of people giving each answer is below. Blue Color: Red White Green 16 Frequency of occurrence: 12 24 Conduct an appropriate statistical test using SPSS and an alpha level of.05. Submit the printout and don't forget to indicate your conclusion about whether all the choices are equally popular

Explanation / Answer

1. State H0 and H1

Answer :

Null Hypothesis : H0: There is no significant difference between people' choices for selection of their car colors.

p1= p2= p3= p4

Alternative Hypothesis : Ha : There is no significant difference between people' choices for selection of their car colors. any one among these colors have different values than others.

2. Select appropriate statistical test

Chi- square test for independence is appropriate for such condition

3. Indicate if test is Directional or Nondirectional

Answer : this test is non directional because we are not aiming that which color has high or low proportion among each other, we just want to know that they are having different proportion or not.

4. Specify alpha (), n, and df (if appropriate)

alpha () = 0.05, n = 4 and dF = 4-1 = 3

5. Obtain observed value from SPSS output

Observed value is given in the question X2= 9.33

6. Obtain p-value associated with observed value from SPSS output

p - value associated with observed value = 0.025

7. Make appropriate decision regarding H0

X2 > X2 critical so we can reject the null hypothesis.

Compare p-value to alpha level () : p - value < alpha level so we can reject the null hypothesis

If p-value £ alpha level, Reject H0 => Rejected

If p-value > alpha level, Do Not Reject H0 => not greater than so rejected

8. State conclusion (interpret results) in words

We can conclude here that there is significant difference between people choosing colors for cars and they prefer some certain colors some other colors.
