Question

I teach two classes that each meet daily. I noticed an attendance drop in Class 1, and decided to record absences in both classes for a week. Complete the table, and find the mean, median, and mode of absences, for each class and in total. Find the following probabilities regarding absences in my classes. a. p (a student attended class all 5 days) = ____ b. p (a student was absent 3 or more days) = ____ c. p (a student had lessthanorequalto 2 absences GIVEN the student is in Class 1) = ____ d. p(a student was absent Friday GIVEN they missed Monday through Thursday) = ____ e. Perfect attendance in a class with 20 students meeting daily is 100 "student-days". What was the percent attendance for Class 2? ____

Explanation / Answer

The complete Table

(a) P(a student attended class all 5 days) = (4 + 7)/(20+20) = 11/40 = 0.275

(b) P (a student was absent for more than 3 days) = (6 + 2+2)/40 = 0.10

(c) P(astudents is <=2 absent if he is from class I) = (4+2+6)/20 = 0.60

(d) P( a student is absent on friday given they are absent on first four days) = 0 as noone is absent for 5 days from either class.

(e) Percent attandance for class II = (100 - Total absences)= ( 100 - 20) = 80%
