7-3 Ans:- Upstream and downstream information flow can depend on location along the supply chain. If we can take assembly plant as the center of the chain then upstram activity would be supply of raw material from mine to the plant. Downstream activity could be flow of finished material from plant to distributors to retailers.
7-7 Ans:- There are various factors which affect the successful implementation of ERP system:-
a. Planning at initial level is required to know the exact requirement. Templates should be based on these requirements and the company should be ready to provide customization as per requirement.
b. Training of ERP system to the resources of company is a key step. The vendor should be highly skilled and experienced so that he can provide detailed training to company resources.
c. Mock activation is also required before full implementation of ERP software. This should be first active on few systems and employees should be given an opportunity to take hands-on experience.
d. Expectation should be clearly set from ERP and same should be monitored on daily basis to increase the efficiency and achieve the objective.
8-6 Ans:- Supply chain efficiency talks about the the degree to which resources are utilized. The resources can be technological, human, physical etc. Supply chain efficiency is mainly concernced about improvement of internal processes.
Supply cahin effectiveness talks about the impact it has on different stakeholders like suppliers, vendors, customers etc. The supply cahin effectiveness is mainly concerned about increasing the experience of customers or sppliers.
8-8 Ans:- RFID (radio frequency identification technology) uses electromagnetic fields to track the tags attched to objects. RFID has been a revolution in supply cahin management by reducing the time lag. All the objects can be easily identified and located along the supply chain which are attached with RFID tags. It leads to reduction of manual entry in th system. Therefore it reduces the man power required to track the stocks and hence cost. It also gives an opportunity to plan for stocks in advance based on availability of data.
