Question

I just need an explanation for the answers on numbers 1-3. Thanks

In a recent advertisement, Gillette claimed that their new Crazy Daisy shaver shaves legs smoother, closer, and safer than any other single-blade disposable razor for women. After shaving each leg with a different razor (Crazy Daisy versus the Lady Bic) according to their own routine, women rated each shaver on smoothness, closeness, and safety. A composite score of those three attributes ranging from 1-10 was used to test for overall average group differences. Assume the experiment was conducted three different times with three different groups of women. Answer the questions for each experiment using the following output. Answer or comment about the following for each experiment. 1. In general, what is the null hypothesis when testing two sample means? _______ 2. What type of statistical tests were conducted in the experiments? _____, ______ 3. Could a different type of test have been used for the experiments? ________

Explanation / Answer

ho: there is no significant difference in the means of 2 experimental groups My experiments are independent. Hence to test for mean difference between 2 experiments I apply t-test for independent samples. Specifically for experiment (AB) I apply t-test for independent samples with equal variances. And for pairs (AC) (BC), I apply t-test for independent samples with un-equal variances. if I want to test significant difference between 3 experimental groups I can apply one way ANOVA. and to test which pairs differs significantly I apply post hoc analysis (turkey crammer etc)
