I think 1 is cluster while 3 is stratified, but im not sure. I still can't figure out the difference between Stratified and cluster sampling
Explanation / Answer
1. 1. To determinine customer opinion of its boarding policy, Southwest Airlines randomly select 60 flights during a certain week and surveys all passengers in the flights.
Here from a certain week randomly selected 60 flights and surveyed all.
So this is D) Cluster sampling.
2. 24 Hour Fitness wants to administer a satisfaction survey to its current members. Using its memebership roaster, the club randomly selects 40 club members and asks them about their level of satisfaction with club.
Here survey is done using random sample . Hence this is C) Simple Random Sample
3. A school official divides the student population into 5 classes: freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, and graduate student. The offficial takes a simple random sample from each class and asks the members' opinions regarding student services.
Here class is divided in to 5 classes that is stratas. And simple random sample is taken from each strata.
So this is A) Stratified
In cluster sampling data is divided in to parts called clusters and clusters are randomly selected from all clusters. Each and every sample from selected cluster is used.
In stratified sampling , data is divided in to parts called stratas. And from each strata we randomly select sample , here whole strata is not selected.
